Pros and cons to a conch snail in a reef?

They need a lot of sand bed room. They move a lot and burrow, so if you keep tiny frags on sand bed, it might get moved around a lot.

I had a fighting conch just die a couple months ago after having him for a little over 5 years. It was one of my favorite animals in my tank. He was always roaming and stirring up the sand bed with his long trunk and beety eyes. I didn't have him in a deep sand bed, just normal amount to cover up the bottom plus some. He seemed to eat some of the thicker looking brown algae on the bottom of the glass and on frag plugs. No real cons for my guy other than the occasional cover up of a Zoa or paly frag that was small. But it was never horribly covered. He never bothered rock work and always seemed to like the hard to get to corners of the tank. Neat addition to the tank IMO

You're golden Chris. I've had a lot of inverts and these guys are definitely my favorite of them all. A lot of character for very little disturbance. Make sure there's a clear sand path on at least part of the bottom to roam and bury and that's it. They bury themselves (not very deep really) every night and spend the day very slowly moving around the tank eating with their elephant-like trunks.
