Quickest Way to Get a Tank Cycled

I am currently at college and will be setting up a new 29g cube right when i get home for the summer. I would love for it to be cycled as fast as possible and I was just wondering what my options are. Would already matured rock work, or water from an already well established system like ReefWise help? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Fully cycled liverock transported underwater at all times should make things almost instant. You could also try adding some Dr. Tim's or Biospira. Water from an established tank won't do anything but add extra nutrients to your system. There is little to no beneficial bacteria floating around in the water column.

Is there anything that i should stay away from when setting up a new system?

If you want a quick cycle the only way is established live rock, which like Ted said should be almost instant if transported correctly. Otherwise you can use a product like Dr Tim's One and Only, but people have had different results. In my experience though my ammonia and nitrite zeroed out after two weeks when using this product, my tank didn't stabilize for another 6 weeks. Either go with live rock or be patient and wait for all your levels to stabilize (alk, cal, mag, pH, ammonia, nitrite, etc).

Every time I set up a qt or another tank I just take a sponge out of my sump on my display. I've never had an issue and as far as I know the safest and easiest way to cycle a tank. Find someone willing to borrow u their sponge lol

Read two threads from you.. Slow down!!! Let everything take it's course.. You can transport matured LR but in saltwater or purchase some from a LFS. Sorry, but you will still have mini cycle regardless "New tank syndrome". So many ways to seed a tank like said above. I wouldn't add anything after a few days and have your water tested 1st!!

Patience is the key!!!

I wouldn't aim to rush anything if you want to do it right... Anything fast in this hobby will likely lead to disaster of some sort.

I bought my rock, water, and a bag of sand and set up my tank in a night. the rock had 2 RBTA's on it and they instantly opened up and never showed any signs of stress. not that I recamend it but thats what I did still never had a cycle. but the big rocks I have were out of a dirtyer system so had a bunch of bacteria on it. months later and all is well except for my ich issue I had from a sick fish.

If I didnt have to move livestock over instantly I would have never done it like this.

It may seem like things are progressing quickly, but trust me they aren't haha... I'm here at college just figuring out how I am going to be approaching everything when I get back home in a few weeks and realize that cycling is all part of the hobby. I am just doing what I can to plan things out while I am away from my new setup.

I know most experienced reefers has always cut corners all the time but some won't admit the errors...lol!! It's your call if you want to set this baby up in one day..

Using fish just to cycle a tank is outdated and possibly unethical. But Tanked and Fish Tank Kings proved we can set up a tank and add a million fish the same day so long as you use enough nitrifying bacteria products. Then again, they never do follow up episodes where they revisit the tank to see what happened.

The day I added my rocks I used a whole bottle of BioSpira and added a few capfuls of Seachem stability. I continued the seachem stability as directed. The next day I added two one inch clownfish which I have had ever since. 75G, the next fish didn't come for a few weeks.

They sell "Nature's Ocean Bio Activ Live Aragonite sand" which has 10lbs of live sand with water in it.
