Red bugs

So I have a acropora that has not been doing good, with further investigation I found red bugs, lucky I only have a couple small colonies, I was woundering if they infest other coarls. And other then that dog dewormer is there a dip that kills them and what dip does everyone use?

Even if you were to dip the corals, the red bugs are still in the tank. Most people dip their corals in coral rx, but since you already have them in your tank, you could either try a wrasse to eat them, or get some interceptor from the vet to treat your tank...good luck.

I had great luck treating 2x with Interceptor. Nothing died other than the bugs. Had to order from a UK vet company.

Interceptor will significantly alter the micro-fauna ecosystem in your tank, as it kills anything that produces chiton (shrimps, crabs, copepods, etc). Many people also notice an explosion of AEFW's after an interceptor treatment. I have seen this happen with at least 5 clients over the years. I used to feel that red bugs were the kiss of death, but i have some in my tank now, and my SPS are growing the fastest they ever have. Red bugs DO also carry over to montis as well, so if everything SPS looks like crap across the board it could be something other than red bugs. If just acros (or one colony) looks like crap, I would check for AEFW's, you can find spotting at the base of the colony, very easy to see. My point is don't over react, many times ppl treat for red bugs, and have very little improvement. Exhaust your other options first.

You can get some interceptor from local stores too (I know Sea Schor usually has some on hand), and GRS over in Highland Park had the bulk pure milbemycin oxime as well, maybe they would do you a solid.

Every store I've visited/worked at has had red bugs at one point or another (I can list them out if you wanna be freaked out :P), no one dips with anything except lugols or coral RX, neither of which kill red bugs... they are pretty much ubiquitous. Interceptor should kill pods for sure if dosed right, usually hermits should die too, unless they are large. Large shrimp are hit or miss. The absence of pods is a good indicator you dosed properly.

Interceptor has never killed my shrimp or nuked my pods. I like that. :)

I pulled joes corals out of dt and stuck in cube disconnected cube last night dosed interceptor and left it till morning no flow pump or heater lol . in morning I sucked the water out added new turned pump back on to connect the systems and all bugs dead and pods to but only in the cube rest system is a o k . I should be good to go now . gotta keep eye on em but don't believe there to be eggs . I will know in a week
