Epic tank disaster this weekend. Cooked my fish and corals at 94 degrees for 10 hours. Was enough to kill half my fish and half my coral, mainly all the monti I just got from the community (it was looking great too!). Still trying to work out exactly what happened, but it appears that I disabled my temperature dependent kill switch on my apex and the heater automatically reset to 92 when I put it on manual on mode. Didn't realize it until the next morning when my girlfriend noticed the lights wouldn't come on (another apex safe-mode I programed when temps gets too high). Didn't have email/text alerts setup for high temps yet though. Huge bummer, feels like I'm starting over. Anyone have something similar happen with their heater?

Thanks. Yeah I had them on that same safe-mode and then manual disabled it because it tripped late afternoon. Should have kept it on auto and waited for it to kick back on after the temp dip but didn't think manual on would be any different. One of those classic disable the safety switch for a 'false alarm' type of situations. I should have remembered that's what always leads to trouble on that history channel show Seconds from Disaster. Gonna have to start referring to my tank as chernobyl now.

Sorry for the loss dude! Usually the controllers prevent just this type of thing from happening

Sorry to hear this. I've got a bunch of birdsnest pieces ready to go if you want them for free. (Green and neon green). Could also break you off some spongodes.

This is truly sad
But well consider it a lesson learnt before you completely populated the tank

The way I do it is set the hear to 79 or 80 and then set the controller one or two stops below it at 77 or 78 depending on your pref

That way even if one fails .. Your tank would be safe till you fix it
