Regarding selling non reef related things

Heres just an idea..

In order to sell non reef related things.. You should have 300 or 500 posts or be a paid member

I think this is a good idea, so we can prevent making our reef site kinda like a craigslist of people selling random stuff and them not even contributing to the community..

Lmk what u guys think

I think other sites have similar thresholds. Not sure about the # of posts though.. 300 can take some time, especially when you're a newcomer. It took me a while just to get to 100 because its a little daunting to jump into a group this large. Maybe take a vote of the community or just let Eyereef decide?

I understand.. But this is only to sell non reef related things.. If ur selling reef things there no post limit(i thnk)

The posts are just to make sure your really here to contribute to reefing and to not sell random non reefing stuff to make money

I agree with you Jeff...that may not be a bad idea. As long as we see them as active members and not a passer by.

Why not post reef related items only? If you must post Non-REEF things go to Craigs List. I'm not coming to this site to look for a lawn mower :nono:

when i post somthing here i always lower my price for members and on craigslist i always have it at a higher price. so i give firsts dibs to members here and try a better deal.

Not a bad idea. 200-300 post sounds fair. On the other hand, if you are not here to buy a lawnmower, don't look at the non reef related for sale thread. It's That simple.

yeah i dont understand the 200 posts.. i can see maybe 50-75 becasue that takes forever.. just ask me! when i first joined i stayed in the chat a lot and asked questions, and that doesnt count towards your posts so that doesn't make sense.. if you dont want to buy stuff thats not reef related then dont go to the thread period.. i am on this site every day and i may not post stuff every day but i am reading a lot and i also have bought a lot of things off reef members so the post idea is kinda week if you ask me.,.. thats like saying you cant buy something if your not popular.. Just My opinion though. no hard feelings!

Again everyone. The post limit is just for selling non reef related things..

If ur gonna sell reef related stuff there is no limit so ur all good..

The post limit on non reef related stuff is to limit ppl that are trying to sell random stuff and trying to make this forum like a craigslist..

Just suggesting this cause its annoying seeing ppl just signing up here just to sell stuff and not even contributing to the forum

I'm the same way votts I'm on here daily reading and I'm just not the biggest talker so it should be like the 50 post or 60 days what ever one u hit first. This is a idea for all sale threads I think non reef related should be higher. Mr.z I do the same as should all members

Thanks for bringing this up Jeff. You make a valid point. The non-reef marketplace was something I thought this forum could go without but a few members suggested it in the past. It does make it a safer place to sell vs Craigslist. Here we can hook each other up with non-reef items and usually at a better price then if you were to sell it to a stranger. As a buyer, you dont have to fear about getting ripped off or meeting a stranger in a dark alley for the transaction. But then again, in order to build this trust you need to be a contributing member. So I think a min of 100 post/supporter will do. Thanks for the suggestion and keep it coming.
Mike
