Replacing Sand Bed

Hey everyone! I'm still battling hair algae and have not found the source. I read that coarse grain sized sand typically holds more waste and wonder if that could be a source to my problem. My sand bed is currently a mix of crushed coral, aragonite, and fine sand. I do like the look of a fine sand bed and wonder if it would be beneficial to replace my current 1.5-2" mixed sand bed with 1" of fine sand?

If so, whats the best way of doing this?

I read some where on the internet (forgot the link), you have to put the new sand in a container with the old water from the tank with heater and pump for a while (You need to change the water in that container once a while too). About 1-2 months (may be more) then you can replace to the tank. I am not sure it work or not because I never try it.

Ahh.. I guess that would make sense. I was wondering if I could gradually remove old sand and replace with new.

I took out my sandbed - brand new rock - But my tank is still infront of my picture window- that hasn't changed.

someone recomended I check the TDS from my RO. also -

my nitrates, nitrites and Phosphates all tested Zero

Still getting some hair algae.

use a toothbrush to scrub off all the hair algae and siphon it out during a water change...thats been helping me with my hair algae problem
