Sea Schor - Buffalo Grove

I've been there a few times. Steve is a nice guy. Very knowledgeable. Seemed to be heavier on the sps side last few times I was there.

Not a big fan. Doesn't have prices on stock and changes pricing to his liking. Went in there one day and he said one price for a coral and went back the following day and sky rocketed the price for me. Haven't been back since then + he seems to have a cocky attitude.

and you have to haggle with him. I just say no and walk out enough that he works with me when I do buy. Keep in mind will depend how busy he is, cannot cut me a deal if he has 20 peeps in his shop.

Oh, and make sure you dip your corals from there

I agree with Cubbies on the sky rocketed part.. Happen to me with someone that works there and came back the following week to find out it was cheaper.. Grrrrr!!!

Some of the crew are real nice.. Things are marked on some tanks now vs back in the day

It's still a LFS to mark off the list even if u walk out empty handed :D

I have had a pretty good experience with them. And i agree, haggling is a must when Steve is around. But if you are there when Menard is working (not sure if he is still there), then you'll have a good experience.

I used to go there fairly regularly.... I used to buy from them and also noticed wild swings in prices. The one thing that infuriated me though was being on his email list with announcements of tons of fish and corals have come in..... going in an hour or so later and nothing..... nothing new... I was told they sold everything the moment it came in. It happened to me a few times and I simply gave up. When I am in the area.... I will stop. But I dont go out of my way.

You get more at the schor like flatworns, bad service, high prices, the owner Steve treat you like crap, price are different for every person, he does not pay people that did tank installs for him and that did work in his shop. The only good thing about this place is menard work there and he will not sell you anything that he would not put in his own tank.

evey time i go there after work they closed so i never been there and dont plan on going they hours r screwy

Stop go these for aloooong time cuz owner attitude .Now, that Mernard working these stop these may one a month( wish Mernard reopen ).

I get the exact same thing from Living Sea's email sales!

They're about 10 minutes from my house, so I stop in fairly regularly. Steve the owner has good days and bad days. He's sold me an orange plate for $30, and he's tried to sell me another orange plate (ten months later) for $80. When he's in a good mood, his prices are low, bad mood, high. There's a younger Steve there who is extremely friendly and helpful. Menard is the awesome and usually just makes up a fair price when Steve isn't around, and there is an older gentleman who always helps me out on pricing without me asking. Ryan of MCF also works there, and he'll also help you out with pricing, plus he's a blast to talk too.

I personally like the Sea Schor, just prepare to leave without buying anything on some days.

Hello all, my name is Ryan, and I work at Sea Schor. So feel free to contact me w issues, requests, or questions. That said, things are changing at Sea Schor, our frag selection is growing in selection and value. Everything is now tagged, and a new system is in place for labeling livestock when it arrives. I am a frag fanatic, and that was why we had so many frags at MCF when I worked there <I think most people liked that ;)>. BTW, the giant tang was taken in as a favor, not purchased. If anyone has a tank big enough for him to reside in, he is all yours!

And thanks Ben, much appreciated.

how big is the tang? what tang is it? I have a fairly empty tank in need of fish

The tang is a unicorn tang (female i think?). It is a good solid foot long, and has a 3" horn. It is extremely friendly and will eat out of your hand (we have kids feed the tang and they love it). I'm not exactly sure what size tank would be appropriate to be honest either, maybe 210ish?
