Seperate fan for cooling and LEDs?

I lost my peppermint shrimp likely to a tempurature spike when the wife wanted to leave the doors open on one of the warmer days. I have read that for a smaller tank to try a fan first. I am building a canopy that will house a DIY LED setup. The heatsink that I have will likely be enough to passively cool the LEDS. Do you think it will be enough to have one fan, eventually on a Reefkeeper Lite to cool the tank, and possibly the LEDs as well if they need it?

I have read that fans even in a sump will drop the temperature a couple degrees, definitely worth a shot imo

I run a 4inch fan on a thermastate on both my tanks keeps temp at 78degrees and have a chiller on both for back up but the chiller barely ever kicks on has to be super hot dayfor it to kick on. Evap with fan is lot more though. But worth it

I think I have noticed that placing the fan at 45 to the surface is more effective than directly at 90 to the surface. Parallel to the surface may be even better but I can't get that angle in my sump. Also, multiple fans or more powerful fans should increase evaporation. Also surface turbulence or ripples should increase evaporation. So placing a fan close enough to cause ripples on the surface should be more effective. On humid days, evaporation is gong to be minimal unless the space is somewhat air-conditioned or dehumidified. So on really hot moist days, air conditioning, even a little bit, will pull out a lot of moisture so that evaporation can resume. This works really well for me, but sometimes I get temps in the tank above 82F. So I monitor and put ice packs in to cool on those days. If the ice packs leak you risk a catastrophic event if they contain anything toxic. So the safest is to make icepacks from fresh RO water.

You can pick up a 4 fan controller from TigerDirect that plugs into the wall for 20.00. There are fans on the floor that are 3.99 and put a good amount of air.

6 plus degrees dropped using a fan.

Does anyone know where I can find a temperature controller with a thermometer that I actually place in the tank? So if the water gets hot the fan turns on? I found one on eBay but it ships from Hong kong

you can do that with controllers like rkl or apex ... just use the temp probe and set the temp to turn the fan on ..

I don't really need all the other features I just want something for a fan but thanks for the heads up I will definitely look into those when I get bigger and more setups

stc-1000 FTW, a fan will work for any tank, you need to keep in mine the evaporation if you are using kalk and if you dont have a ato.

Cool does this come with a thermometer that I can actually put in the tank or does it use the surrounding air temp
