Lol! I was reading about that last night. They were all dropped in over 150 feet of water away from any reef structure.

But, why exactly are there any military maneuvers happening around the GBR?

Although it's not anywhere near as bad as running aground on a reef. We would never do......oh wait yeah we did :p

Yeah, I read that too... sad regardless if they missed the reef or not. I mean, it's great that they missed the reef, but still - dropping something that large from that high up.... that's gotta do some decent damage to the sea bed. Anchors and so on already scar areas, can't imagine what a bomb would do!
 
Glad this was not worse than what it could have been. Before I got into reefing I never paid much attention to environmental stuff. I mean I was aware of what we did to damage it and I never intentionally made it worse by littering, or anything like that. Now that i am into reefing i have such a respect for it and the people protecting it.

Also, imagine if the bombs went off. The price of ultra coral would have gone through the roof.
 
One thing I've always assumed when I saw "Aussie Corals" is that they're from the GBR. I found out on Sunday that collecting from the GBR is prohibited. All the Aussie corals we see on the market come from other areas of Australia.

Just a little side note lol!

The only positive I see coming from this is that those bombs will now be the basis for new reefs to begin colonizing. It's still nowhere as bad as that navy ship running aground on the reef in the Philippines. I wonder what that captain was smoking.

it is because how bad all the military guys look on these survival shows. but the problem is we are just animals too, just arrogant ones. but if we get luck everything will just be more fossil fuel in a million years.

I believe two were dummies, and two were "unarmed" (ie, explosives on board). Also from what i read they had to abort their trading exercise, which means they weren't able to drop the bombs. They didn't have enough fuel to make it back with the bombs, and couldn't land with them anyway. Just what i read...
