Sick after cleaning tanks?

Has anyone gotten sick after cleaning their tanks? Yesterday was WC day for all my FW tanks. Felt great til 4pm, then started feeling sick. By 6pm, I had a temp of 103.3 & couldn't get it below 102 the rest of the night. Now it's normal. Hubby blames the tanks. Not sure I should go see the doc or not.

Wow...I'm glad you're better now. I guess it's possible from freshwater too to get sick. The different bacteria that's present. Maybe you touched your eyes, nose, or mouth while cleaning them.

I heard about a guy who couldnt put his hands in any of his tanks. He would break out with hives like mad. Maybe you ingested some bacteria from the water?

I've heard of people who turned into Zombies after sucking tank water using siphon.......

Sounds like just the flu or any kind of viral illness to me too. keep taking them tylenol and Ibuprofen.

Like has been said, there are all sorts of bacteria in our tanks, both FW and SW, that we are not use too. It could have just been coincidence that you got the flu after cleaning your tanks or it could have been something associated with the tank. Hard to say for sure, especially if you are back to normal already. I wouldn't worry about it unless you start to feel some other side effects not normal with the flu.

Its always possible but most likely coinsidental or how ever u spell. I use to swallow so much of the fresh water tank while cleaning made me gag but other then the mental thought of being sick to my stomach i was fine. I also would think it effect u more the next day and not so fast glad u feel a little better

I'm with joe. Imo it's not bacterial. Too quick of an incubation period.

Did you get your flu shot!? Lol

I don't think a bacteria could make me that sick that fast.

Yeah usually there is an incubation period where you exhibit no signs or symptoms for usually 1-3 ish days for the flu, (if the doctor was right... assuming he did throat cultures and what not). During this period the viral infection is building up while your body is starting to recognize and fight it off.

Sometimes after working out or something extremely stressful happens I get really sick quickly....Cleaning your tank takes up a lot of your body's energy which would have other been used to fight the infection. The infection gets to multiply unhindered in these cases and quickly exacerbate your signs and symptoms. Time to rest and watch the tank :) lol.

I hate missing work. I make good $$$ for the short hours that I do work, so when I miss it, I hate rescheduling. Going to work tomorrow. Last year I kept getting high fevers on & off for no reason. This was the highest ever though. Dr did not take a culture.

I hope u feel better. Mike if my tank ever makes me work as hard as a mma training session I'm out of the hobby and back to training.lol

I was getting a lot of fevers last year, for no apparent reason. I think this was the reoccurrence of that. By Wed night temp was normal & I was feeling 100%. Going to work today. My concern is when I saw the Dr yesterday about it, he just said it was the flu (I've NEVER had the flu) & gave me a script for Tamiflu. I took one when I got home but it's obvious to me it was another one of my fever episodes, NOT the flu, so I'm not taking anymore pills for that. I worry that if this could continue into my older years, with the fever getting that high...

I usually get sick when I realize it is time to clean mine.

All joking aside, glad you are feeling better puffer.
