my mother in law was watching my tank while I was on vacation (just feeding once a day some portion controlled frozen food).

no incidences all week, we were coming home Sunday, she fed the tank one last time on Saturday.

So I've got screens on the tank, but the fish are very trained to get excited when I come to the back of the tank to feed (it's in wall).

she was afraid they might jump out, so what does she do? she taps her hand on the screen a couple times to scare them to keep anyone from jumping out.

but guess what, I have a foxface and he loves to troll the surface with his spikes out and guess what happened...

so I get a call that my bro in law took her to the ER because her finger swelled up and she felt faint, she thought she pricked it on the screen, but then I told the ER tech that she likely got stung by a foxface, which was case.

she's ok, but I never thought to tell her to be careful, as I assumed she's simply pour the food in and walk away, I never thought she's do something like that!!!

Now that's a nice mother-in-law. Shame on you for not warning her! :nono: Just kidding, who would have anticipated something like that? But I think someone owes her a nice dinner out and maybe some flowers too.

Thats just bad luck . She will never watch u tank again lol. Glad shes alright. I seen matt from sho tank get stung by lion fish holey hell his hand and arm swelled bad

Sorry to hear that. Glad she is ok! Would mind sharing what the ER did to treat it. I have a fox face so curious.

As an RN I'm guessing IV Solumedrol, Prednisone, Diphenhydramine. Any one singly or a combination of. That along with 0.9 NS IV for hydration. Possibly an IV antiobiotic as well.

I'm guessing this is just a coverup! Come on, it was his mother-in-law, trying to get rid of her! HAHAHAHA, I am only joking! I remember when I had my lionfish and I wouldn't let anyone in the tank except me! My palys may be more lethal now then a foxfire sting! :)

thanks all, yes she is fine ;)

a couple of antibiotics, they even gave her a tetanus shot, clean it, etc...It's pretty much like a bee sting, but stronger, the main issue is if you are allergic to the venom, then that can be big problems, especially if you are anaphylactic, you might even take some Benadryl to be safe

Dang sorry to hear about this.

I've only been stung by a lionfish once. Hot water helped a lot!

Glad she's okay and it didn't end up being a horror story.
