I've tried a few different times over the years I've had this coral. I've now gone through all the corals in http://coral.aims.gov.au/info/factsheets.jsp and cannot find one who matches the growth pattern, branch structure and lack of radial corallites on both sides of the branches.

It looks like a A. Nana in colony structure and color,
Like A. Caroliniana or other deepwater with the elongated rounded tip structure,
And has no collites on the underside of the branches.

Any thoughts? Am I missing an obvious suspect?

Looks like Nana that adapted to ur flow condition.. All this Acros changes shape in our tanks coz of the flow patterns and availability of nutrients, lighting i see that all the time but its all good

Thanks Menard. It has the classic fragile basket colony structure of Nana and I don't know another acro that shares the feature.

It grows huge that's for sure mine is 12" tall and 10" wide looks identical to
yours names are bunch if crap if not properly managed . Im past the name game it's just a scam about money anyway .
A general name for disciption purposes is good enough for me these days. The neat purple tip one is fine by me .

This is not a request to get a name of a coral. It's to identify the genus/species. I find it fun to know in as much scientific detail as plausible about my tank.

In that case it looks more liked some of my acro than the Nana I have
Due the the way it branches but it is far more brittle than any of my confirmed known acros
It is an interesting piece in that way.

I have that it's a Tri-Color Valida blast it with some more light and the base will get a nice green with purple, polyps are white, but there are a couple different variants of this acro and some polyps on the base can turn green with a brown base also.- It's been confused as a Bonsai and it's not

+1 Frankie....looks like a tri-color valida. I have a huge colony of it, with nice purple tips.
