Stand Builders

Is there anyone here that is a stand builder and does it for $ or trades ? And can someone give guidelines for what a DIY stand would cost? For example: A basic stand (2x4s; no paint; no doors) for a 20G long is ____; for a 55G the price is _____; for a 75G ______ and etc.

Depends on what material you want to use. Standard cheap 2x4(overkill if u ask me for a 20l) can be bought for like $2 for an 8ft piece. Also need to factor in height. Standard stand height usually 30" if I'm not mistaken.

So if you have a 20 Long with a 30" tall stand you'll need about 24 ft total of wood. 3 8ft 2x4 So roughly $6 in wood

55 with same height = 4 2x4 $8 in wood

75 w/ same height = 5 $10

Mind you this will change if u use higher quality wood. Or decide to get fancy...lol.

Also not included screws glue(I glue all butts don't ask y don't have a good answer) And sweet

All just rough estimate. Didn't exactly do the math...just off top of the head

That's also without plywood. If you want it wrapped with the cheap plywood I believe it's $25 a 8x4 sheet and around $50 for the good stuff

Contact r33fswagg3r he can give you an insight on aluminum stands. Stand I had on a 20fussion was amazing from 8020.net as per his reference. Plus there is so many options on thickness and attachments.

Sorry i just saw this! Ive been busy with school, havent been building much while in school though, current projects are a nano skimmer and a wine rack though ahah

I just built one for my nephew (20g Long) out of some scrap wood from my 120g build. The 120 is not finished yet as I need to decide on trim and how the canopy will look (needs to match) but here is a pic of the work in progress.

This one is an example of a finished look

The cost really depends on the size (and how many the builder can fit on one 2x4' plywood sheet. Also pine is a lot cheaper than oak. Nails and glue are usually minimal. I would guess the 20g long cost me $40 in wood (including the trim pieces) and 2 hours of time.

HTH!

Thanks for the posts but this thread is from a year ago. A fellow member built a great stand for me; which was sold with the tank some time ago. lol

trackfast,
Matt at shotank in mundelein Phone:(847) 949-8265 is very good with woodworking and stain. He built my stand and matched the oak in my house. I see you don't want paint, he may be able to do that too. He builds the stands right in his reef store.
