Stupid halides

My 250w hqi halide turns on for sometimes an hour and sometimes a minute then shuts off. Signs of bad bulb or ballast?

IM going with ballast , do you have another bulb to throw in there

Yeah. I think I tried that already and forgot I did it. Haha so I think it is ballast.

Mine did this on an off for a while. I replaced the lamp twice. Ballast destroyed them both. Now I have a new ballast. Good luck.

is the ballast built-in the fixture or a stand alone?

is it rated for HQI lamps?....not all ballasts are HQI so you may have a compatibility issue

Yep even has the hqi setting on the knob
