I was out of the house for a week and my 75 gallon crashed. Heater malfunctioned and made seafood soup. It was mostly fish and a few corals. Everything is wiped out.

RIP: bi color angel, yellow tang, clown 1, clown 2, watchman goby, purple fire fish, chromis, skunk shrimp, and royal urchine. And last but not least cuc and corals.

So... I take it as a new beginning. The heater has been how do you say... dealt with... What are your suggestions on what I should get?

ViaAqua Titanum is people love it on R2R site, I just bought one for back up (300W)..I used Finex Titanum, it serve me well and still running. Sorry to hear about the crash.

Sorry to hear about your tank :( A Controller would definitely be a huge difference, but costly and not sure how much you have to spend. Otherwise a lot of people including myself use eheim jager's

Eheim jager is a must, the controller is a huge want that will go a long way towards helping prevent equipment caused crashes.

a controller ,

Lol... I actually did laugh. I know that now and had to learn the hard way... I feel bad for my little friends. I will invest in one.

Thank you, but I was actually asking... What are some livestock options you suggest? I'm not too well knowledgeable on fish.

Thanks Mai. I'll check it out. If you suggest it and have corals like those... It must work. Lol

Oh man, you have so many options on fish. All depends on what you like

Thanks guys. time for more researching. in all honesty I just want a colorful and peaceful tank that won't break my bank, don't we all though... Lol.

Definitely a pair of clowns, a hipo maybe but my tank might be too small. I'm open to anything.

Could easily go with a wrasse or 2, they have great colors, or look into anthias as well.

I like the reefs with a bunch of wrasses that hunt together. Always cool to see a bunch of active swimming wrasses among the corals of a tank. I've been told the majority of the reef safe wrasses are not aggressive, excluding the six line of course. I have a black Leopard wrasse now and can't wait to add another.

When I first started out setting up my reef tank a few years ago, I read in several sources that your biggest defense against a malfunction is to have multiples of your equipment. Not just on hand, but also running simultaneously. Thats why I have 3 heaters, 2 return pumps from my sump (got two smaller pumps instead of one large one but GPH is still the same when both are running), a float switch with a backup float switch and the air pumps that sense a power outage and turn on. Knock on wood, but I have had 1 return pump and one heater break and no effect on my tank whatsoever due to the others still running. Obviously hindsight is always 20/20, but I would definitely suggest looking into have extra heaters on and in your tank. While a controller is helpful, it is still a singular piece of equipment that can also fail... a lot of faith to put into one piece of equipment if you ask me. I'm very sorry about your tank and I'm sure your next one will be even better though.

Gracias. Yeahhh... I should get backups and a controller. My tanks are in two separate houses 40 minutes from each other... That way I can monitor them depending on where I'm staying.

Anywho. I took out the heater and the tanks been cruising at 74ish during the day and 72 at night. Cleaned the 75, big water change, got: two clowns, fire fish, and a sixline wrasse...hopefully he's not too aggressive. Shooting for a tang, angel, and whatever I think looks cool. Still open to suggestions and thanks for the help everyone!

Sorry to hear this mike. I don't know how I missed this thread. My 6 line was only agressive towards shrimp. I'm gana be shutting down my tv soon if you would like my blue damsel. I know they can be aggressive but it has never picked on anything. It got along with my sixline and now this cryptic 6 line. Just let me know and its yours.

Thanks for the offer Mike! But I've had nothing but bad experiences with damsels picking on my new fish so I have to decline.
