I am on the fence with Finding Dory. Pixar has always been on a totally different level then their competition. Their flops are better then a lot of other studios hits. That being said since Disney retook them they have produced at least one completely useless sequel. I'd let you guess which one I mean but I'd bet my Cars that you can figure it out 2. The biggest reason said sequel was completely useless and hollow was that it lacked a strong theme for the audience to connect. It was just another adventure with Larry the Cable Guy.
Toy Story lent itself well to sequels because it had a legitimate thematic evolution in how kids relate to their toys and eventually think they have outgrown them.
The Incredibles brilliance was its exploration of family dynamics and the fear of losing our personal identities by being forced to conform.
Finding Nemo was fantastic because it was about a father and son coming together while also learning to give each space and trust.
The characters in both of movies grew out of the themes being explored/stories being told. They weren't product having a theme/story crafted around them. My fear about Finding Dory, and any possible Incredibles sequels, would be that they were just throwing a story together in an attempt to remind people of the originals.
