The Whitetail Bristletooth Tang

Today, I figured I would post about the Whitetail Bristletooth Tang ....mainly because I am extremely happy/excited about mine. I originally ruled out having one due to the fact that most of them that enter the aquarium trade are 5-6 inches. When a batch of 3.5-4 inch Whitetail Bristletooths arrived, I could resist taking one home.

The Whitetail Bristletooth Tang (Ctenochaetus flavicauda) is a highly desirable fish from the West Pacific. It is very similar to the yellow eyed kole tang except for it has striking white tail and red body.

The Whitetail Bristletooth Tang is an excellent reef dweller that spends the day grazing on a variety of algae. They are also less aggressive and than most tangs.

These tangs have only been entering the trade in small numbers. This is attributed to the divers classifying them as "runners." Instead of seeking refuge in a near by coral, these tangs promptly swim away before the divers can even get in the water. This is also the most likely contributor behind the higher cost of these beautiful fish.
