TheGreeks 150G Build

This new build has been almost 2 years in the making and it is finally here! Gone through buying a new house, new baby, different equipment changes, 3 different tanks (custom 40breeder,120 and now the 150g all with out getting any thing wet till now. This is my first time doing a thread for a tank build that I thought was worthy and that I really wanted to take my time to really document. My wife was the one who really convinced me to just go for it and do the biggest I felt comfortable and that would fit our space in our home.
The tank is going to be delivered this week and when it does Ill post some pics. In the mean time I have some pics of the custom stand I had made. I just picked up the stand from powder coating yesterday. Heres a before and after pic of the powder coating. The doors all come off and I had magnets counter sunk in the doors so they allow the doors to sit flush on the stand.

The Plan
My plan for this tank is to keep it pretty simple. I always find that when I come back to keeping things simple and not concerning myself with the cleanest of water and trying to introduce something new to fix something has gotten me in trouble. I think that's one major fault in this hobby, we think if we keep on throwing something at a problem instead of understanding the problem itself, we ourselves get our tanks into even more trouble and we waste time and money.

Since this tank is going to be of the size I'm going to get some fish I've always wanted and finally I don't have to say no to my wife when there is something she likes because of space constraints(Purple tang,Flame wrasse Pair,Copperband butterfly, undecided goby/shrimp pair, some type of schooling fish and more). Coral that I will be keeping is going to be a Mixed reef but probably going a little more heavy on the LPS. Main reason is I want to go a little heavy on the livestock since I have a soon to be 3 year old and 1 Year old who find the fish a little more fascinating and Ill beable to feed heavy and keep everyone in the tank happy. I think I should be fine with my over sized skimmer and what I have been reading lately, and from my past experience,on the type of tank I want to keep, feeding the tank heavy is going to be a key to my success I believe with the type of tank I'm going to be keeping and what I have found successful in previous tanks.

I cant wait to update my progress and share what to me is my little dream tank

Can't wait to see this tank come together. This sounds like it's going to be an amazing build. Following along

I like your stand. I'm wondering how the powder coated metal will hold up in the long term? Will the doors have any hinges, or will they be fully removable with the magnets? Anyway I wish you the best of luck on your journey.

Thanks Mel!I think it should hold up relatively well. I've seen a few tanks with long term success with powder coat. Although I did do something a lot of stands I've seen not have done, I had the shop use a Zinc primer to really help protect the metal surface even more. Using the Zinc primer helps create a barrier effect that will help prevent oxygen and moisture from reaching the steel surface.
The Doors do not have any hinges. Each door corner has a magnet sunk in flush and they attach to the steel surface. I really like this because it makes the whole stand accessible with out any obstruction.(And my girls wont be able to open the stand, which was most important to me)

Thanks Fabio and Julian sevenseas stopped in last night and this afternoon and picked up this desjardini sailfin, he has some nice blues and nice markings with my lights. Real nice place and real nice guys. Highly recommend and is my new go to spot!
I have him/paul(my 2 year old named him that) in my holding tank going to put him in a little extra qt and then he should be ready when I setup the new tank.

Should have the tank finally in the house this weekend. Been busy with the past few weeks and it's hard to coordinate moving a 5x2 tank. I plan on getting water in it by Feb 20 for my daughters bday party. I'll get some pics posted this weekend.

Went in today sevenseas and picked up an awesome magnificent fox face, thanks Julian! He's hiding right now I'll try and get a pic tomorrow. He has some really nice solid coloring to him.
