Thinking about drilling the floor.

I'm thinking of drilling my floor and having the water run down to the basement. Water changes would be so much easier and I could take some of the lr out of the tank and keep it in a sump downstairs. Has anyone done this? What type of pump would I need to get it back up stairs?

For the pump, you would have to figure out the total footage of pvc back to the DT; the amount of 90degree elbows and he height the water has to be pumped.

You wont regret it. I have only 1 regret thats with the gurgling noise. Im sure Its the way I have it plumbed. I have a big blueline pump that was over kill its throttled back only a 1/3 open. I could look up the model if you want. Its the best I would do it if possible. Try to put it close to the sink and drain if you can.

Besides not liking all the LR in the tank, I only have a 29g tank underneath that is being used as my sump. I figure if I go through the floor then I can have more of everything! More water volume, a huge refugium, a frag tank connected to the main system and very easy water changes. I will also be great to finally have an ATO. I'm pretty sick of adding water daily to keep everything in check. Unfortunately I don't have a room to use on the opposite side of the tank wall so I think the basement would be the best bet. Having half the water in the basement at all times would probably help with any heat issues in the summer too.

I tried to go over the pros and cons but all I keep coming up with are pros. The only con that I can think of is busting out the hole saw and cutting through the hardwood. I need to come up with a plan and then I'm gonna go for it.

When you cut the floor, make it the same size as one of your floor heat registers. If you ever get rid of the tank or move just put a register over the hole.
