Thoughts?!

Thinking of setting up a 40 breeder..
Here's the thing i dnt want it plumbed up to anything just gonna be using hob filters and skimmers..

Here's the euipment I want to use:
Reef octopus bh1000
Aqua Clear 110 with chemipure and some LR rubble
Intank fuge
Cobalt neo therm 150watt heater
2 mp10's or 1 mp 10/mp40
CC120 light
Tunze nano ato
RKE controller

Plan for this tank is to make it mainly fish/invert with some zoas/palys/lps

Do u guys think I can keep keep a successful tank with the equipment and the approach I will be taking.. Let me hear ur thoughts..

-only reason I'm not plumbing it or drilling is cause I'm not all to familiar or comfortable my plumbing abilities..

jeff i would just drill the tank and have all that equipment under ( more fuge space , skimmer nothing hanging from your tank)

U should just keep the talk clean on the top. Have everything under. Good luck I like the idea of your tank

Hey Jeff, I would sump it. Gives you some extra water volume, you can hide equipment in it, and have a place for ato, probes, skimmer, etc.

Matt at Sho can drill it for you and let me know when you're ready to do plumbing, it's pretty easy.

I did it for over a year. 40br with a Rena smartfilter and heater, AquaC Remora skimmer, and 4 bulb t5 fixture. It worked pretty well. I much prefer sumps and such, but it can be done without. Good luck!

With what's on your list you could easy get SPS growing in there too. Sumps don't make filtration methods better, just easier for more room/access. With everything you have listed, you'll have a thriving reef ecosystem just not a sump!

You can do it. I had a 30L with a Aquaticlife skimmer and an aquaclear hob filter running for a couple years and it thrived nicely.

Nitrates and phosphates, WC would be far too frequent to keep all but the most hardy SPS or tolerant inverts. But with your list in the original post, it is very doable. It will take you keeping an eye on nutrient export.

BB or sand?

Good luck and keep us posted on the build either way.

Thanks for the input everyone.. I'm gonna be putting a canopy over the tank so things hanging will not be a problem since they will be covered.. Also only planning to keep some nems and zoas and palys.. No sps.. And tank will be mostly fish.. Gonna wait till a dollar per gallon sale comes on to buy my 40b tank.. And will slowly start collecting all the equipment I need..

Gonna have a DSB for this tank

Bro I have all the gear to drill a tank and I have extra extra plumbing parts to. If you change you mind maybe you and I can rough draft a couple ideas. Then I can show you the New Nuvo 16 build. :)
