Using black sand in a nano

Was just thinking if its a good idea to use black sand in the nano reef i was about ot setup ..

any suggestions / advices against it ? or supporting it ?

anyone tried this before ?

Theres a couple threads on black sand now but ill say i enjoyed it made things pop and a good offset to the purple rock

I have a ton extra from making my faux sand bed. It acts like any other fine grade sand in a reef aquarium.

the only place i can get it is oldtown aquarium...any other place sells black sand ?

You can get it online from DFS and others too. I don't know what any Chicago area LFS would have it.

black sand will be great for showcaseing some nice show pieces/rare corals... like plate corals/scolys/or some rare zoas

Pretty sure i saw done at petco the other day. May have even been "live sand"

i bet the color contrast will be more


but some how black base makes the tank look little smaller for some reason
