Vodka Dosing??

Thanks To Dre, I now have a par reading on my tank, as well as more accurate parameters. During these test, we notice my Phosphates and Nitrates were a little high. (PO .24, NO4 .50ppm)

I never had a issue with Nitrates on previous tanks so i never really dosed or researched a solution. I cam across vodka dosing last night a did a lot of reading. I have a good grasp on how to dose this and some of the authors outcomes, but i wanted to see if any of you have experience in this.
Please share your Net tank volume and how much/often you dose. Also if this was a good solution

I dose Lanthanum chloride to lower my phosphates. I also dose vitamin c and it has been keeping my nitrates below 5.

With vodka dosing, everything can start looking amazing or the tank can crash if not done properly. Vinegar is safer imo.

OK, I reefkeeping website hasn't been working for me today, but i managed to do more reading on vinegar dosing. I think i might try this method, however i really don't want a cyano issue that some report while dosing. I have read to start at 1.5ml/day for 100g system?

When using vodka, their is a chance you might get it.. Vinegar has a less chance..

The one thing I'm not sure about is a system that is young and not yet done being established.. Your system is still new and this might go away within time. But I can be wrong..

I will disregard the dosage method given on charts and dose slow..

Start week 1 with 1ml
Week 2 2ml
Week 3 3ml & etc, etc. Always test each week..

This will help your system to adjust and avoid issues when ramping up fast.

You have a great skimmer, so you should be good

I wouldnt carbon dose a system that hasnt had time to mature. You need a very good skimmer at least +1 and need to be patient, can take 6 weeks before you start seeing results, need to ramp up slowly. I've switched from liquid carbon/vodka to biopellets. Less maintenance, can plumb the output directly into my skimmer, I dose Dr. Tims waste away weekly instead to keep the bacteria consuming the carbon to avoid cyano.
