Wow that is crazy I will stick with muratic acid in the back yard with all the PPE on to clean my rock.

Last year I just had way too many pest nems growing on my rock & decided to tear the tank down & start over. I put all the rock on the backyard, on a gravel bed in the garden & left it there for the winter. By summer the rock was ready for a good scrubbing & back into the tank. There was still good life left deep inside the rock & it cycled very quickly. The tank looks fantastic now!

Using bleach is really common. After it dries with a few rinses and a vinegar bath and its sparkling clean.

I bleach rock, it's not uncommon.

Once its dried its completely innocuous. The vinegar bath just rinses away and dried residue.

Bleach would evaporate quickly in open air...or use Sodium Thiosifate (sp?)to neutralize it....I still don;t know why anyone would go through all that work....to sterilize....but I guess I must by a newbie, right Puffy!
