What are these things?

Hi everyone. I have these white, string like things coming out of my rocks. It started about 2 months ago and now I have about 5 or 6 of them. I know they're alive because if something touches them, they withdraw back into the rock. Sorry for the bad picture. I took it with my iPhone. Thanks.

By your description they sound like vermetid snails. They are a pest. I have some and ive been battling them. Try putting super glue over the end of the tubes.
 
Are the black and whitish and segmented??? Of is it completely white in color?

Could also be a mini star fish? Hard to tell in the pic.
