What did everyone do on the 4th? I'll start with my disastrous day. Went fishing with the old man on Lake Michigan. Started out with the trailer lights going out on the way. Fixed that problem. Got to the harbor and the boat wouldn't start....it always starts....finally got it going. Got onto the lake from the harbor and put the throttle down and nothing....was like we were going in neutral. Used trolling motor to get back to the dock and found the throttle cable popped off the engine. Cut my finger and it was bleeding like crazy. Fixed the throttle cable
Got onto the lake and did well. Here's the results:
2 king salmon and a steelhead.....missed one when it broke the line
Leaving the lake, hooked up the boat to the trailer. Old man went to start his truck on the ramp and it wouldn't start. Turned out fuel pump went out. Had to call a tow to get the truck, trailer and boat out of the water. We're able to get it started by tapping on the fuel pump so we were able to make it home.
With that being said I'm not going to do anything boat related on the fourth again....lets flashback 26 years.
Old man and I and grandfather went fishing on the big lake. Grandfather got too close to a buoy put out by army corp of engineers and the buoy rope wrapped around the prop. Old man got in the water to cut it off since it was attached by a concrete block at the bottom of the lake. When he got in the water the rope had fish hooks in it that went into his foot. He had to hold onto the boat while sawing the rope to avoid being pulled under water. Was able to saw the rope off with a knife. Had to surgically remove the hook from his foot himself. That night shooting off fireworks on the beach a firecracker jumped into his show, burned his foot. Love the holiday but can't deal with the shenanigans that happen to us. Happy 4th weekend to everyone
