So i knw everyone remembers last years power outage extravaganza.. Was wondering incase of another one.. What do u do to get ur tanks, livestock and corals through the power outage? I knw from an article i read b4 that mcf held some ppls fish and livestock when we had the outage..(correct me if im wrng). Do u guys use generators, have lfs keep ur fish and livestock, have other local reefers keep them for u. I just ask cause last year in my area in gurnee it took 7 days to get power.. I had a freshwater tank at the time. All fish and plants survived.. But im just afraid now that i have a saltwater tank..any inputs are welcomed.. Thnks :)

My apartment building has its own backup generator for the whole building when the power goes out. I haven't seen it kick on yet, but I heard power is inturupted for only a few seconds.

Besides that, I have a 1500 VA UPS Battery Backup that I use for my return pump/heater/whatever I need. I also have Ecotech Vortech Battery Backup for my MP40s (Over 24 hours of power). My parents have a generator I can run from my balcony, so incase the building generator somehow fails for over a day (unlikely), I can go pick it up.

Better safe than sorry. I can't afford to lose most of my corals becuase replacements would be next to impossible to find.

If my building did not have its own generator, I would always have a portable generator on me at all times.

Ic.. I should probably invest in a generator... How long do they usually last for.. These generators?

After the last outage was such a nightmare for us, I finally invested in a generator. What a peace of mind it gives!

During last summers power outage I picked up a generator. Ran the tanks with just pumps for the first three days just to keep the water flowing. The forth day got the lights up and running. Didn't loss anything during this period with the generator.

If your asking how long they run before filling them back up with gas the answer is, it all depends on the size of the generator and the load on the generator. The more load on the generator, the less time it will run.
