I knw everyone does it a little different.. what do u use wether its a lunch box, cooler, styrofoam box.. let me knw ok.. i wanna knw whats the best transportation device to use for corals especially since it will be getting warmer outside..

Jeff, a plastic bag is normally all I use. If the trip home is more then 2 hours I'll bring an small Igloo cooler with me just to play it safe.

If I know the ride home is 1+ hours, I'll ask the store to pack extra water for the coral/fish. I'll also keep the plastic bag out of direct sunlit when riding in the car, the floor normally works well I cover the plastic bag with a towel.

for corals, i have a container i made a frag rack in to hold the plugs. Then i keep that in a small cooler. For fish, i just put the bags in a small cooler as well to try and keep the temp as close to what they are to begin with...

It has worked well for me. I just transported SPS and various zoa frags from chicago to ames, iowa (6 hr drive) and all were well and survived the ride no issues.

How long do you think you can leave SPS exposed to air? I understand it's not good practice, but what do you think?

I use a plastic bag and then a styro box.

Also when a trip is longer you need to have them pack extra air in the bag, Not Water. Typically fish die in a bag due to lack or oxygen way before they die due to water chemistry changes. So get as much air in there with just enough water to keep them covered at all times.

Im curious as well. I usually bag all my corals under water no matter what it is, but this is a good question.

I know zoa can usually go a few hrs out of water and be okay but I've heard of some corals that die off after just a few min.
