What is the best way to get your clownfish to host your anemone

I have two ocellaris clownfish that are tank raised. I added an anemone about 2 weeks ago to the tank and they don't seem to go anywhere near it. Is there a way to get them to host or is it the luck of the draw?

I was in the same boat as you. I had bought a picasso clown, added it to my tank which has three anemone's. Wouldn't go near any of them.

Found another picasso over the weekend all snuggled up in a bubble tip, so I bought it. Added the picasso to my tank and it went immediately to the anemone. The other picasso saw it, then proceeded to join the new clown.

I think it's kind of a monkey see monkey do type of thing.

This may sound crazy, but I've read a few different threads on the internet where people played a youtube video of clowns hosting an anemone, and it worked. I've never tried this, but it might be worth a shot.

I tried the photo trick, worked in under two days. Once one clown hosts the nem, it is only a matter of time until the other does. It truly is monkey see monkey do when it comes to hosting.

Brian at reefwise shares the same thoughts about it as I do. He is actually getting all of their clownfish used to hosting BTAs in his store before he sells them.

I will try the picture idea. So I should just find a picture of a clown hosting and anemone and tape it to the outside of the tank?

I bought the anemone b/c a clown was hosting it at the LFS. I would have bought the picasso hosting it, but I have a pair already. One is about 1.5 inches and the other is just under 2 inches.

Thanks for the help

Yes, try and find a picture with a similar looking anemone in it. So if you have an RBTA, get a photo of an RBTA. If you have a Sebae, get a photo of a sebae. Having a similar looking clownfish hosting in the picture could help too. Then make sure to tape it close to wherever the clowns hang out a lot.

The best way to get them to host is to hold them in a breeder net together it will take them a few days to get acclimated with there hosting buddy I've done this a bunch of times and they host within a couple days or even hours...

I used a spaghetti strainer. In an hour they started to play around the nem and in two hours they started to dive right into the nem.

scare them into the nem. it worked for me in one of my tank, but in my other tanks i left them alone and they hosted in a few months naturally.

Maroons hail jump right into bta for some reason , had bta before I had placed maroon pair in as soon as I let them free female jumped right in !
