ok i have been using a refractometer and always used RO water to calibrate it ..

used RO water even now and it shows at 1.0 sp gravity

and now today i recieved the calibration fluid from amazon and it shows the sp gravity at 1.030.

i also know calibration fluids do have a shelf life and well not sure it is correct .. :(

which one is correct ?? im sooo lost .. what should i do now ??

I usually use just the calibration fluid. I did recently use RO water to check the 0 reading and my refrac. was dead on with both readings.

you can google studies that show using RO water can yield false results. I only trust calibration fluid as long as it's a trusted brand.

It's American pinpoint

But here is my question ... Calibration fluids might go wrong but we all know sp.gr of pure water is always supposed to be 1 isn't it ??

Well an update ..

looks like the calibration solution i recieved is bad.

i took the Refractometer to Ted ( SkillV) and he calibrated it with his calibration solution and my refractometer is spot on ..

Thanks Ted for your time :)
