What's the ratio?

So a friend came over and noticed a few small spots on the hippo tang that I didn't notice. Assumed to be ick. I've been reading that adding garlic helps fight away ick and helps fish health and immune system. I feed flakes and mini mysis. I have minced garlic in a jar in the fridge so should I take some of the liquid out of there and add it to the cup when I thaw out the mysis? How much should I put in the cup? Few drops? Quarter of the jar?
I also have green marine algae which has labeled having garlic added so I'm planning on adding this more often too.

Just get some of ur sw in a cup and sprinkle in some garlic powder. Not garlic salt. I usually let the mysis defrost in the water with a little piece of algae and then dump it in.

I have the little bottle of kent garlic xtreme liquid, one drop stinks up the whole place. Yuck.

True True - But I rather add an extract that is FOR SURE safe, verse adding in garlic cooking powder thats been sitting around the kitchen for god knows how long.

Well I have garlic powder too. Gunna look and see if it has an expiration date. Being That I have a good amount of garlic powder I hope that will work. What is everyone's experience with it?

It's suppose to help
Immune system as well. I use kent as well

From what I understand it's an attractant to get the fish to feed, which in turn will boost their immune system because they are feeding instead of starving themselves. It's not a booster for their immune susystem. But it boosts their desire to eat, so they can take in the vitamins and proteins from teh food which will boost their immune system.

Garlic Xtreme contains a powerful source of garlic that can serve many purposes in aquariums. Used as a food soak, Garlic Xtreme is a strong attractant, enticing finicky eaters to begin feeding sooner. Additionally, Garlic Xtreme may be used directly in aquarium if fish are not eating. Garlic Xtreme contains no artificial ingredients or steroids, and does not need to be refrigerated!

Never hurts to get them to gorge now and then lol

People and businesses that sell us stuff can claim anything they want. The fact of the matter is that much of it is anecdotal anyway. How would one go about measuring and testing the immune response in a fish? Unless this has already been done in the fisheries industry i would imagine that there will never be any hard proof becasue it could take thousands of dollars to research it properly. There does seem to be a lot of anecdotal evidence that garlic has helped fish get better or clear up crypt. The only thing I know for certain is that it doesn't hurt them.

I agree, but the source of the boost to their immune system would be the additional nutrition provided from the food; not the garlic. Teh garlic serves as the attractant. It's like putting sugar on stuff for kids. The kids are going to eat it if it's sweet, not because of the sugars benefit to their health.

I have a medicated food mixture that you can feed the fish for it to cure ich. Naysayers are out there, but it has work for me and other respectable people in the hobby. Let me know if you want me to post the instructions.

What you will need:
Frozen Food (i use rods)
Seachem Metronidazole
Seachem Focus (acts as a binder)
Amino Acids
Vitimin C
Garlic

Selcon is aminos and vit C together, Seachem Garlic includes Vit C so you just need an amino such as brightwell aquatics, or similar.

Mix 1 scoop of Focus and 1 scoop of Metro into a bowl
add 1 tablespoon of frozen food
mix till disoved
fortify food with amino acid, garlic, and vit C
(you may prep as much as you need and refreeze)

Feed once a day for 30 days. Stop and observe for at least 30 days. If Ich return begin another 30 day cycle.

When the Ich trophonts bites the fish with metro in it's system it kills the trophonts hence stopping the life cycle. This is why you may have to repeat dose depending where in life cycle you catch the ich. I believe I had to do 2 cycles before it was gone.

The focus is used as a binder for the metro medicine to be digested by the fish and help aid in any open wounds cause by the trophonts.
