so whats your plan when the power goes out? after yesterdays storm some have lost power and i noticed one had just posted they lost a fish due to power outage. luckily i dont lose power at my home but if i ever did i dont have a backup plan. what do you do if that happens?
 
I have been thinking of this and might get a larger UPS like we use in the datacenter at the office, I need to do a measurement on how much power I draw though to size it up correctly. That would handle cutover, and long term would be to get a small generator. Not sure the wife will sign off on that though... need to get her to watch some prepping shows and remind her the end of the world is scheduled soon
 
I have a battery backup that will keep my main mp40 spinning for up to 24 hours. Got it for free cause the USB connection to a PC went bad and it doesnt do what its supposed to fast enough when the power goes out. I dont need uninterruptable power, just need a power source. Works great when needed.
 
I picked up a battery operated pump from mcf when they were closing for business...with extra batteries on standby.
 
Either a portable generator or if you have the funds a whole house generator with an automatic transfer switch is the best option. Unfortunately you need the funds space a qualified electrician and its kind of a major project residential wise.

I have been thinking of getting a little generator too. With all these storms thank goodness we haven't lost power.
