Why I must be stupid...

I sold my Glasscages 150 gallon acrylic tank to a fellow CR member (Chi-Reefers). The agreed upon price was $400. Being the nice guy that I am I offered to bring it over to his apartment while I had a truck available to move it before he had paid in full with the understanding that he would pay the balance at a later date. He gave me $200 and gave me his word he would pay the second half. I knew he was getting married a few weeks after I brought the tank over so I didn't expect to get paid until after that. I heard from him maybe once after and then nothing. I know that he is out of town a lot during the week for his job and is in the process of buying a house. I really don't know what to do in this situation. I have been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt that he intends to keep his word but I don't know what else to do. If anyone has a way of contacting him on the phone please let me know. Unfortunately I lost his phone number.

do you remember day date that you delivered the tan kand roughly the time most likely called him when you were in front im guessing look up your old phone bills online not 100% but should be pretty easy to find hopefully your right on giving bennifit of the doubt good luck

At least you know where he lives, right?(you delivered the tank). I would go there on the weekend and try to talk to him directly.BTW I have learned hard lesson too, one day here on CR,from that day on no money,no stuff.

That's straight up theft. If you have proof of electronic correspondence, you can sue him in small-claims court. Even if you don't win, you'll make a dent in his daily routine.

and small claim is gonna cost like 200 to file :-(

Unfortunately I don't remember his address and he may have moved anyway. It bothers me because I consider my word sacred. If I give someone my word I am going to pay them you can bet your life on me coming through.

Did you put his address in a gps unit? You would be able to scroll threw past addresses.....?

Sweetie, you're in for a rude awakeing here if you think that's how reefers always behave. There are only a few folks on here who I would do anything for without coughing up those coins first via paypal, Square or delivered kidney. I learned that hard lesson when I was green and had sunshine for eyes and smiled tulip blossoms after I spent a few benjamins on those dendros. Everyone who said they wanted them got quiet and disappeared.

Folks still to this day blow me off and never come over as promised to pick stuff up, so I have a firm policy of not holding ANYTHING for anyone who doesn't put a deposit down first. The first person who calls me from downstairs with cash in hand is the one who get's my goodies. The typical culprits are the noobs. If I see low post counts...I assume they will do the worst anyways.

I've only been blown off once. Maybe you should get out of the big city and settle down in the burbs :becky:

Minivans, bunnies and strip malls terrify me. And if I don't hear the crunch of green beer bottles under my feet, I don't feel safe.

It happened last week, as a matter of fact. Someone was supposed to come by and swore they wanted my fish and promised they would come by and grab it. I told them my policy but they said they would be there. I was home that entire evening and texted them twice and called once. Not a single response was had by me. I wasn't bummed because I expected the worse and I had planned to be at home that entire evening anyways. I don't chase folks down so after that last call, I was busy doing something else.

What the hellz wrong with people?!?!?

What Jason should have done was take the $200 as a deposit and then on a later date, the remaining $200 would be paid at delivery. I understand we want these items cleared out of our homes ASAP, but you never really know who you're dealing with with new folks. And don't even get me started on the creepers from CL.

I really hope this is all settled and in Jason's favor. That's a nice chuck of change.
