Why is my water cloudy?

Every month or two my water becomes very cloudy for no apparent reason. I just wake up and the water is cloudy. I do a water change of about 20% and its still pretty cloudy. Everything is open and doing fine, but the water looks terrible. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on.

Thanks

What are you feeding? Do you rinse frozen foods? How much live rock do you have? Flow???
How's your skimmer working? Have you tested the water lately?

I had this same thing happen for a period of time. The only difference is that it didn't happen on a regular basis, and typically the ammonia levels would spike as well.

The only thing I could come up with is something was growing on the live rock somewhere and died off, then grew back again and quickly died off. Not sure if that's what your problem is, but it's the only thing I could come up with for mine.

I would test your parameters when this happens. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, etc.

What inhabits your tank? Do you have any Clams?

I agree with Pfisher if it keeps happening on a regular basis.

Thank you all for the comments. I have a 25 gallon cube with an MP-10 and a small korlia in the back for additional flow. The only rock is vida rock. There is sump with a SCA 301 skimmer and about 10 mangroves. That's about it. I did buy a sponge about a month ago and thought it was attached to a rock, but it is attached to some sort of clam or oyster that has basically locked down on a corner of my vida rock. I wonder if it is that? Other than that, the skimmer isn't pulling that much out. I haven't fed too much lately either. I will check my levels tonight and do another 20% water change.

I had a similar issue with my tank once and for the life of me could not figure it out.....

until one night I noticed why it was happening:
