Wildisme's 200gallon split tank

So back on the first I posted that I would be starting a new build. This will consist of 2 93g marineland cubes side by side. Each tank is 30"x30"x30" making the setup a total of 30"x60"x30". The tanks will sit so that both overflows are in the center back part of the setup.

Equipment currently will be a custom acrylic sump I've had for a long time. The sump measures 30"x14"x18". It runs 2 filter socks, then into a protein skimmer chamber, then into an extra wide bubble trap section where the heaters sit, and finally into the return pump area.

The protein skimmer is one I have had for years rated for 300g. The heaters a both new titanium 300w heaters with digital controllers. Both pumps are 750gph and each tank will have its own return pump.
A separate 20g long will accompany the sump as an ATO tank working with a JBJ ATO.

I am debating on running a Carbon and GFO reactor that I already have as well as a mini biopellet reactor. I have never honestly noticed a difference running the carbon and gfo in a fluidized reactor vs just having bags in the sump. I have also never used the biopellet reactor as it was for a small 16g that cracked top to bottom 2 weeks after I bought the reactor. I doubt it would have much of an impact with this water volume.

Both tanks will have an MP10w running on the back walls for internal flow.

Lighting currently will be handled by 2 Aqua Illumination Sol Super Blue fixtures. One over each tank diagonally controlled with the old style knob controller.

Stocking will be a full reef in one tank. Current stock is a pair of Black Ice Snowflake clowns, a dottyback and some corals that Trackfast has been holding for me ever since the 16g broke back in march.
New stock will most likely add a pistol shrimp goby combo, 1-2 tangs, and a small group of fish which is undetermined yet (chomis, fire, bangaii, anthias)

The other tank will be a few pairs of H. erectus Seahorses, a pair of Banded pipe fish, and possibly a few other tank mates. This tank will also be stocked with many leathers and macros.

The stand and canopy will both be home made and will most likely be drywalled in with trim stained to match the same color theme in the house.

As of today I have both tanks picked up and in the house. We are still waiting on furniture to come in. Until then, I will have no updates as we need to make sure it will all fit into the livingroom with the sectional we ordered. If not this may get transferred into the office in the front side of the house. However I am trying to avoid this as I'd rather have the tanks in the livingroom where it is visible from there, the breakfast area, and the kitchen.

Very nice concept. I can't wait to see it completed. Now you make me want to try something like this. Reef tank on one side, pred tank on the other....lol

Well I know it’s been awhile. I expected to get to this much sooner. However with a newly built house. We had a lot of work to do. Now that the projects are beginning to slow down I’m finally getting more time to work on other things. That being said I got the stand made. Tanks are up. Bulkheads are all in. Pumps and hoses are in. Skimmer is in. Ecotechs are mounted.

Decided on using my Prime HD instead of the AI Sol Super Blues. So those are now listed for sale and I’ll be ordering another Prime HD. Ordering sand soon, wanted to get that done last week and never got around to it.

Tanks will be very minimal when it comes to scapes. Very Little Rock and nothing going above half way up the Tank.
I want the fish and seahorses to take the spotlight in the tanks.
Still have to get the heaters in, Mount all the wiring and controllers, plumb the overflows to the sump, add rock and sand, paint and mount the cabinet doors, and buy cut paint and mount the top trim.
Then I’ll add water and start cycling.

You should have put the tanks right under the TV; watch both at the same time ! ;)

Did actually think about that. Was worried about having the tv directly over them with that much evap and was worried about too much glare as well from the reflection of light off the top of the water.

I have a 20lb bag of new live sand left over from my build if your interested. come get it, rather not see it go to waste.

I appreciate the offer. However it’ll probable cost me less to order the bag lol. Your over an hr drive for me each way.

Not a problem. Not worth it given the hour. I also have a filled 5gal bucket of sand from my old reef. Needs a wash though. Price is only good karma. Lol

Sooooo....

I know it has been a while since I updated.
I setup the sump filtration system. Got everything plumbed in. Also got all the electrical wires tucked up to the top of the cabinet.

I slowly began filling as I was limited to making about 40g per day due to water storage restraints.

I added Fiji pink sand to the reef side and Indo Pacific black sand to the seahorse side.

I have to say I went minimal on both sand and rock in the tanks as I will have key feature corals in the reef, and the seahorse side will have a lot of macro Algaes. That being said I may end up adding an additional bag of Hawaiian black sand to the Indo Pacific sand as I’m very disappointed with the lack of black sand in the Indo Pacific black sand.

That being said. Both tanks have been up and running for a bit now and I’m ready to start adding fish and coral to the reef side.
The light has been ordered for the seahorse side and once the reef side is running for a while and builds up a bit more nitrate I will begin to add the macros to the seahorse side. As soon as I add the macros I will be heavily stocking both tanks with pods. Probably a month or so after that I will begin to add livestock to the seahorse side. Most likely 3-4 pairs of horses, 3-4 pipe fish, a mandarin, and possibly a few other small additions.

Hopefully within the next week or so I will have a chance to get with Victor and pick up my stock he has so gratuitously housed and cared for for the past year. Can not even begin to explain how incredibly generous Victor has been in his willingness to help in a time of need. I have done trades with him since I first entered this hobby and his willingness to help and teach has been second to none.

Thank you!

Update. Added some macros, Gorgs, and sponges to the seahorse side.

Had to take the Clown tang back. Found out it was blind and kept running into the rocks and corals. Was afraid he would hurt himself. Ended up picking up a powder blue.
