Yogo's updated system

Hey all!

Tank has finished cycling, added some caulerpa to the fuge in the sump, after lots of extra research went with Chemi-Pure as my carbon replacement. I just can't trust carbon after what happened, and the ionic benefits of chemipure are also very, very desirable, and it doesn't remove trace elements. Anyway, past that. I've got a 100-watt equivalent 5000k compact flourescent lighting my caulerpa, and just about everything else in my system is the same. Aqueon sump, Rio 3400 return, but now everything is hard-plumbed, and because of it, I've had to turn down my pump! Way more flow with the direct line, so my overflow can't keep up as much, lol.

Current levels are all 0 after using Bio-Spira and dumping some frozen mysis two weeks ago!

I have these two fellas coming in on Tuesday!

I like chemipure. My only suggestion is switching your macroalgae to a different one that wont go sexual on you. Caulerpa is known for going sexual/withering away and releasing nutrients back to your tank. That's also how it spreads and can go from your fuge and take over your display tank.
I would go with chaeto unless you can keep close eye on your caulerpa and keep trimming it, so it's always small.

I've never had good luck with chaeto, and a lfs that's been doing this for 60 years uses caulerpa on all their systems, and has been doing that for decades now. Chaeto collects too much detritus anyway and gets clogged up. I'll keep it trimmed nicely. And I intend on having a tang or two, so they'll have plenty to munch on.

Just did some tests:

Ammonia: 0
Nitrates: 0
Nitrites: 0
Phosphates: 0
pH: 8.0
Calcium: 440
kH: 11
Mag: 1350

After another couple of days I'll be testing my cal/kh/mag and dose as needed, as I'm getting a decent growth of coralline algae now.

Really looking forward to the picasso's coming Tuesday!!

Quick question. I am thinking about running my fuge light 3 hours on, 1 hour off. I've heard for macro and scrubbers this will actually increase production, as most algaes have a 6 hour actual active photo period. Anyone else heard/tried this?

And thanks lunacris. I just can't wait to have livestock again. I might pick up some hermits from the ark today too.

care ful angler and lion even small will take those clowns no problem i speak only from experience on this my angle ate a clown that was huge lol

Yeah, the only reason is at the Ark right now they have a striated angler and a fuzzy dwarf that are both smaller than my clowns right now, so it would take quite a while before the were a threat, and by then, my clowns would be safe in their nem :)

Great! Coralline algae everywhere, fish and nem and critters are all doing great. Almost bought a wartskin from the Ark yesterday but I maintained control of myself... :)
