14k vs 10k metal halide bulb & zoanthid growth rate.
I've switched my 150 watt metal halide bulb from 14k to 10 k.
So far ive noticed: 1) 10,000K Light color carries less blue hue(blue tint) 2) 10,000k = perfect white light
10,000 is described as the "perfect" white color, which, I read on quite a few forums, is great for zoanthid growth. I will be testing to see which has better effects on growth, the 14 k metal halide or 10k metal halide.
So far, I've noticed increased growth rate on my pink aurora palys(where I was getting 2 new heads after 3 months, as opposed to 2 new heads in about 1 1/2 weeks! This may just be coincidence, who knows. I've been adding a lot of recent changes to my tank; so must further continue to experiment).
One minor downside is that the zoas colors, although still very nice, don't pop out as much. They don't pop out as much as they did with 14K with 10k. But my goal, is to find out which has positive effects on zoanthid growth rate, the 10k or 14k.
So far, I like the 10k.
I'll report back onto this thread if any drastic changes occur besides the pink auroras. I just have installed the 10,000k about a week and a half ago to 2 weeks.
Until then, report your experiences, if you have any.
