Zoas disappearing?

For a few weeks now two different zoa colonies haven't been opening and seem to be disappearing. My Lfs suggested for me to shake the corals in freshwater then put them back into the display. Since then they have started opening more but the population has seemed to decrease. I don't have a qt and do not have any more dip. Should I get more dip or rinse again in freshwater?

I read somewhere that if i have astrea stars in my tank that they will eat up zoa's. Is this true? I have a lot that i've seen in my tank as of late.

yes, especially if those stars are rust/brownish color on the tentacles .. go get a Harlequin shrimp and it will take care of it for you :)

Watch out for pods too. I took my zoas out of my dt due to the same exact issues you're having. Put them in a small frag tank after I dipped in lugols. Didn't see much in the dip except pods. Well they started to open up very nicely but as I would watch them bedside I started seeing pods on them. Wake up the next mornin and I see pieces of the polyp missing. I've started manual removal , three times a week dips, and have opted for a wrasse in the dt and neon goby for the frag tank in hopes of ridding myself of them.

Thanks but i haven't noticed any pods anywhere in my system and i'm always keeping an eye on it. I've seen these stars in there for months now and they haven't been a problem until now. :(
I'm going to get more dip (because i'm out) and see if any of my LFS have a Harlequin

I caught this guy in the act last night on one of the smaller zoas. I also purchased a harlequin yesterday! I'll try and get a pic of him later

quick update. I'm still waiting on my dip, but i did dip in FW on Sunday. Zoas are pretty much closed up, i have a few that open up here or there. Since introducing the Harlequin, i've seen ALOT more asterina's. Should keep him busy for a while
 
Another things. How is the flow and lighting in the tank? I had same problems with you, but after I put them on the medium or high place w/ mediate flow. all of them doing well now
