crazy's new 80g deep blue rimless downsize

Excited about going shorter. Will be picking up a Deep Blue 80g Edge this weekend from another member here. I currently have a 120g aga and a 45g marineland cube. Due to my crazy work schedule I have not been able to up keep the tanks the way I would like. I will be adding my favorite livestock from both tanks into the 80g and parting ways with the rest. My plan for the new tank is mostly high end sps with a few lps ( mostly Acans ) added to the bottom and a rainbow bta for my clowns. It will be set up on the tile slab in my finished basement in the same place the 120g is now. I'm thinking of going bare bottom with this tank due to the high flow I will be adding. I prefer the look of sand though, so still undecided. I have a eheim 1264 return pump and will be getting a 1260 with the set-up not sure which to use? I have not bought a new skimmer in awhile so no idea what to get, open to suggestions. I know everyone wants pics, I will add some this weekend when I get everything here. The following are my plans so far ......please lmk what you think. Thanks

Looking forward to this! I've been planning a very similar build and am at the point where I just have to wait on moving into the new place.

I went with the Vertex Omega 150. No experience running it, but it is beautifully built and built like a tank. From what I've read they're finicky at first but work very well once dialed in. If I hadn't gone with the Vertex (matched my color scheme) I would have gone with either an Aquamaxx or RLSS.

Got everything back here yesterday. Big shout out to ColaAddict for making it all possible. Nino is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Offered up drinks while we were there, helped my husband carry/load everything, threw in extras, and even offered to deliver the stand when we thought it wouldn't fit (we were able to barely get it in after taking apart my husbands van). Got everything home and I was sooo excited I started painting a fresh coat of paint on the stand before taking any pics. Remembered after first coat on outside so as promised pics to follow. Finished painting 1st coat inside of stand last night. Today I plan to put a 2nd coat on everything and give the tank/eq a vinegar bath. Thought I would get 120g down today, but I still haven't put up my xmas tree so have to do that.

Love the Eheim pumps, superb reliability. I had one work for 25 years before failure, newer ones no issues. As far as skimmers go, i like the Lifereef skimmers, and own two vs2-24's, great skimmers, low maintenance.

Thanks. I have foam rollers here maybe I will try that. I did pick up window tint while I was out this morning, but painting would be cheaper/easier.

I painted with foam rollers. Just be careful not to scratch it as it comes off pretty easy.

OK so after a couple days wasted trying to paint the back ( there was silicone residue that would not allow the paint to stick in one area ) I decided to just use window tint. My first time doing it, was pretty easy. Turned out good just not as dark as I would have liked ( used 2.5 limo tint ). I did the back and a small area on the left side to hide the overflow. Spent a day soaking the sump, pump, and plumbing in vinegar and gave a good scrub. Everything is all cleaned, put back together, and tank has been brought in the house. Will get pics up later. I have all new RO/DI filters coming today along with carbon and gfo. Tomorrow I will be picking up my new skimmer a Skimz sk181 cone. Tonight I plan to take down the 120g and put the 80g in it's place, not looking forward to this part :suicide:. I will start filling the 80g overnight and hopefully have it up and running with saltwater by Thursday evening. Depending how hard I party that night, Friday will be spent moving livestock in. I will be using existing rock from the 120g so hoping for an instant reef. Will probably wait a couple weeks before I move my sps over and break down the 45g cube they are currently in.

Good luck ivette. My transfer was 4days just to make sure. Transfered rock. Waited 1 day for corals and 4 days for fish.
But i did notice on the 1st day the abundance of pods on the glass. It was coveres in pods.

Thanks. Corals will stay in 45g about a week while I make sure things are stable. I'm hoping fish will be ok ( there will only be 3 making the move ). I was thinking it would be less stress than staying in bins too long or moving to 45g and then again into 80g, plus tang is too big for 45g cube. Last time I downgraded from 240g to 120g I did everything same day without problem, so I'm hoping for the best this time around as well. I have limited time off of work so really needs to be mostly done before I go back Sat. night.

I never kept up with the build thread, but this is how the tank looks today. I had to move it into an upstairs office and decided to add sand back into the tank and go with easier to keep softies at the same time. I was having a hard time keeping up with the tank maintenance due to my crazy work schedule. I was sad to see the sps go, but have been really happy with the changes. The tank is more forgiving and I’m really enjoying the movement. I have had a long time obsession with inverts, and this tank definitely reflects that.

Livestock list

yellow tang
kole tang
ocellaris clown pair (one orange-F, one black-M)
Pink watchman goby and tiger pistol shrimp pair
Rainfordi goby
Firefish goby
Green clown goby
Blue mandarin
4x skunk cleaner shrimp
2x peppermint shrimp
5x sexy shrimp
2x boxer crabs
2x anemone crabs
4x emerald crabs
Several blue and red legged hermits
Assorted snails
Fighting conch
Pink pincushion urchin
2x rainbow bta’s, 1x large rbta, 1x rock flower
Assorted softies, assorted zoas, acan colony, and 2 remaining encrusting monti’s

I’m sure a few others I am forgetting about.

Equipment is still basically the same except I have added a 3rd mp40/removed the mp10’s, replaced the smart ato with a tunze, and replaced the 2x tlf reactors with a dual brs reactor. Will be working on adding an electrical cabinet and moving everything out of the sump.
