6 or 8 ATI Sunpower on wide tank?

U should get the 8bulb for the frag tank. U can save money going with the 6 bulb but what happens if u don't like how the spread is and isnt enough par? But if the 8 bulb is to much can't u just use it as a 6 bulb?

+1 exactly. Better to have it and not need it than to short yourself and spend more later anyways.

I have a nice 8 X 54 watt fixture that I will be selling pretty soon for a really great price. Let me know if you are interested in it. It has all ATI bulbs in it. The fixture is 3 years old and the bulbs are 4 months old, or approximately 720 hours of use.

Thanks but I'm pretty set on a 36" length and only ATI fixture.

Power modules are the way to go they put out more par then sun powers.

Power modules have been discontinued.

PMs also only give out 5-10% more PAR due to the increase cooling the PM unit provides.

However I'm more worried about too much PAR, than not enough.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. They've been very helpful! I've decided to go with the 8 bulb fixture, even though the 6 bulb would be more than ample I think. The difference between the 6 and 8 bulb is $70. I have a feeling the 8 will be too strong in the beginning, but I can take some lamps out if it's too strong. I think for $70 I'll take the added flexibility were if I want/need more light on top I can run all 8 lamps, and as the top rack starts to fill and shades the lower rack more I'll need to push some additional light in there.
