650G SPS Dominated Reef

Wow. Awesome and huge! Watch out for that pocillipora. Mine spawned too and I had little pieces growing in quite a few places. It became a pest. I put kalk paste one the spawns to kill them. If you like it, let it breed!

Thanks for the heads up. So far I only see one place where the spawn "Settled" where it is causing some heartburn for a staghorn coral I have. A coral head is growing next to the base of the other Acro causing it to recede. I go back and forth as to whether I should just let the reef sort itself out to to intervene everytime colonies begin touching, etc. I see other tanks online that are crowded with Acropora and somehow it all works. For now.. All the colonies and the newly hatched coral have room for a while so I have time to decide :-)

Nice! and welcome. crazy equipment list. I don't even want to know what your electric bill is :)
I love big tanks, the stability it gives you is awesome for the SPS. Is it Peninsula style?

Its hard to tell how much $$ the aquarium really takes since depending on the season..it uses more or less. I think when the heater / chiller is not necessary during spring/fall...the bill is less. I regularly get the nastygrams from ComED about how much more electricity I use compared to my neighbors. Oh well!

In terms of the reef, its actually build into a wall between my home office and a hallway. I work from home most of the time so I can see the front of the reef from my office, and the back is exposed to the hallway outside the room. The double sided viewing creates almost two tanks since one side has more tabling acropora while the other is mixed.

They charged $4500 for 8 guys and an all day move. The tank was made in Dallas and was shipped to Chicago. The movers went to the freight terminal, unpacked the crate to inspect for damage, then they loaded the aquarium onto their own truck and brought it to my house. From there, they went through the process of wrapping and moving the tank into place. Seemed a bit $$ to me at the time but I guess if I do the math on standard $65 per hour Aquarium maintenence, having 8 guys there for 8-9 hours would add up quickly. The positive thing was that they took great care in making sure the tank wasn't damaged.

The 400 gallon aquarium was recently installed by my LFS and I didnt have to hire a special moving company. They brought 6 guys and just carried it into place.
