aquarium adventure - dry goods

Let me start off with I don't like their husbandry of their livestock. But...

They do have some cool and hard to find drygoods. I'm in the market for dart frog gear and they have the terrarium I want. Does anyone know if the fish club discount applies to reptile stuff? or if they have sales on this stuff?

I asked 2 people in the bollingbrook store last night and neither could give me a straight answer.

Their sale flyer link;

Usually their discounts don't apply towards tanks/tank kits, so I would say no it probably won't.

I like Aquarium Adventure's freshwater selection, they always had higher quality fish than petco/petsmart, and cheaper too. Their saltwater fish though, I am so-so on. All the fish I have bought from them have been fine, you just need to buy them at certain times.

They are technically my LFS for dry goods though cause of how close I am to them.

Still in the purchase/planning phase. I need the terrarium first and at $280 it's not cheap. The major holdup is the plant selection. There is just no single reference for which plants for which humidity and light levels. It's taking a lot of time to find which ones are available.

Just because I've done pdf's before, which terrarium are you looking to get? Does it have a screen top? I would advise covering it ghetto style with saran wrap or going with a tank with glass tops to keep the humidity in and the flies at bay.

Thanks Jay. Link and details in above post. Yeah I'm planning on adding a glass top. I'll also use the exo terra monsoon kit w/ 4 heads. I'll setup a false bottom and may drill and bulkhead for easy draining. I'll only be keeping a couple pdfs and they'll come much later.

I always wanted one of these for a chameleon. Maybe one day.

Yeah they are huge, about 65 gallons. The little PDFs will get lost in all the foliage and tank size, but that is my design concept. A large rainforest undergrowth vivarium with a couple PDFs for added complexity. I’ll go with leuco’s for their ease of keeping and loud call.

A terrarium this size can support many more, but I'm thinking 3-5. I'm still trying to convince the wife to take care of another hobby when I travel and not wake up dead one day...:hang2: It'll stay plants only for some time while I work out the kinks and learn more about pdfs.

what all would she need to do while your away? toss sum flies in and fill up the mister? i could see the flies part being a problem :p

That link is exactly what I'm designing, I just don't have room for the 180gal.

Yeah, for daily maintenance she'd have to dust and feed the flies which isn't a problem by itself. When you add that to the reef, pico, tropical plants already in the plant stand, maintaining the fruit fly cultures, and our 2 dogs, she complains it takes her all night every night. I enjoy the work, she likes sitting and watching TV.

with a lil fishy zone in the viv? def alot of pets goin on down there :p seriously tho cant wait to see the plant tank, sure itll be crazy while frogless

The deep water is too risky from what I read. PDFs can drown themselves if the water is deep like that. I'm still working on the details of my water feature. I want something reliable and easy to maintain, yet I think I need to keep the water moving. I still have much more research to do.
