aquarium adventure - dry goods

Yeah, I'd think the same. As it's the forest floor there would have to be puddles and open water. Not sure if they lost a few intelligence points in captivity or if the wild ones are just as :stupido3:

The deep water is too risky from what I read. PDFs can drown themselves if the water is deep like that. I'm still working on the details of my water feature. I want something reliable and easy to maintain, yet I think I need to keep the water moving. I still have much more research to do.

Obviously, this is your thread, so we can talk about whatever you want, but if you want to do a PDF thread, I'll definitely contribute more. I would probably give up SW in a heart beat and go back to PDF's if I wasn't already so vested in SW. My 150G would be a gorgous viv.

If you haven't already (which I'm sure you have), sign up on dendroboard.com. My fave breeder locally must be out of the game, but I can FB his wife and see what's up. I still have food and supplies if you're interested. I have yet to open my humidity/temp controller that I bought a while ago for my tank. My leucs ventured out of the tank because I was cheap and used thin acrylic to keep them in. I'll never skimp like that again, especially since I had a male calling throughout the day. Wifey loved the sound :(

Again, if you want to start another thread (since we're in the LFS thread), be my guest, and I'll get more chatty on there :)

I would check this out. I used to go when I was younger and into reptiles had them all, they have everything you can imagine and great prices its breeders from all over. It used to be called Lee Watsons reptile swap and was in streamwood then changed name and locations. They have the used tanks, alligators, dart frogs, geckos, flying squrials, chameleon etc I have even seen a lama for sale before. Might be worth you checking it out.

Will do. The last pdf thread died out, I am suprised this one is as strong as it is.

The best thing to keep a small amount of water, especially if you are going to plumb a bulkhead for draining water in it. Somehow build a small waterfall in the corner that will flow into a small pond, with a small bulkhead/valve keeping some water in there, and put some mesh over it to keep the frogs from going down the drain. That way you get water movement, filtration of the water, a small pond for the frogs, and of course the added humidity that I bet the frogs would love, it would help with keeping misting down.

I used to have firebelly toads and a larger waterfall/island fixture with a pump. It provided the water movement for the 10 gallon tank, and kept the moisture very good. And of course it had filtration in it.

I still go, and I haven't seen a llama, but that would be sweet. OP is still in the planning stages and it's way too tempting to go and try to not walk out with a couple frogs. Better to cycle (yes, PDF tanks need to cycle too) and get everything going stable before adding livestock.

I saw the lama when it was Lee Watsons reptile swap back in the late 90's loved going always came home with some kind of critter. from geckos to red eyed tree frogs wanted to buy a camen alligator not sure if they can even sell them anymore. Also had a flying squirrel. Thats y I cant go otherwise i would be in trouble with the wife. lol I am waiting for the littleman to get a little older so I have a reason to start up again she can't say no to the littleman. LOL

I have been looking into buying the small 12X12X18 Exo terra vivarium and put a frog or two in there with some tropical plants. I would love to go and check some of these things out! I dont know a whole lot but am def interested.

Man I used to have a 125 PDF tank with a 16"*12"*4-5" deep pond in it and never lost a frog in it but wow it kept the humidity up
For pants for it is did spider plants, pathos, tried orchids but it was to stagnate, lots of aquarium plants will grow as a vine or as a nice ground cover as they are mostly found in swamps.

Welcome Aboard Tom. Your setup sounded pretty sweet. You got out of PDF and went to fish? If you have a tank, how about a tank thread?

Saw your looking at trying PDFs check out dendroboard it's a great place I'm out of frogging at the moment but I would never buy a exo terra. Looses a lot of humidity. There is a lot of creativity in building a viv and it requires a lot of planning. I will try to post pics of my 90 it was spectacular. If I didn't give it to a friend already you could have had it! It had front opening doors and was built by glasscages they are good at building viv tanks on the cheap.

Oh and as far as aquarium adventure goes I think pricing is high. I wouldn't buy livestock from them unless it was quarantined. I'm new to the salt aspect of fish keeping but have had freshwater planted tanks for years...
