BigBarnacles big nuvo 8 build (v2.0)

What better for my 1000th post than the start of my Nuvo 8 (v2.0) build?! My original nuvo 8 had an unstoppable algae bloom that forced me to rethink some things. So I sold off, PIF'd, or transferred rock, corals, and fish to other reefers and my 75 gal reef and started anew (with the exception of the Nuvo's obviously cycled sandbed). I downgraded the lighting from a CC par 38 full spectrum to a CC par 30 vibrance. I honestly feel that the light was 75% responsible for the crazy algae growth. I then upgraded the filtration, which I feel contributed the remaining 25%, and added a Finnex nano canister filter. Inside the canister filter I currently have the ceramic rings, carbon, and purigen. I'll be swapping out the carbon for chemipure elite in the near future. Here's a few pics of the current setup...with it's lonely two residents, an astrea and nassarius snail.

I'll be receiving the CeramEco Bonsai rock this week which will complete my aquascape. This upcoming weekend I'll be making a trip to Hooked to see what's going on with a few nano fish :spy:. Then it'll be fun time with corals while the fish are in QT. More pics and update to come this week.

BB are the bonsai's back in stock? I had to basically fabricate my own from Tonga.

Sub'd and lurking. I still think you should have made your 1000th post regarding an in depth view of the fascinating barnacle penises. Can't wait to see more Nuvo pics!!

nice.....looking forward to the progression.....
interested in what manufacturers LEDs those CC lamps use...any chance you might know?

We use chips from multiple manufacturers, as no single manufacturer produces chips that hit all of the very specific spectrums we require for our fixtures. That being said, we use a combination of chips from Epistar, EPI, and Tekcore.

Wow. Neat little set up. How do you like that canister filter? Does it keep your tank very clean and how is the maintenance on them?

No idea on teh maintainence yet, just set it up. Seems pretty easy though. The water is crystal clear so far, however my two snail bioload isn't much lol. I tell ya what though, it's dead silent. I'm constantly checking to see if it's still on.

The bonsai has arrived!
