BigKev23's 60g Cube Build

After 5+ years of running a fuge with rock and macro algae that was always a place for detritus to rest and other algae to build up, I decided to try something different. I removed all of the live rock, cleaned out all of the detritus and algae, and added a 8"x8"x4" MarinePure Ceramic Biomedia Plate. Have read many good reviews about these as biomedia and figured I would give it a try since one block has 23,000 square feet of surface area. I will report back with results as time goes on.

I did the same in the fuge part of my sump, but used 3 of the big blocks. I havn't noticed any change in no3, which was the only param I needed help with. Good luck Kev. I didn't run macro, but had a bunch of LR, so a 1 for 1 swap didn't yeild any difference for me.

I had maybe half a bucket of LR, so I'm hoping this is better. Plus I'll be able to keep the area clean easier since it won't be full of rock.

Curious if the fuge wasn't getting the job done, or if it was just a 'try something new'.

I use Seachem Pond Matrix (a similar product to the one you are trying out) and now struggle with zero N03 :o

A bit of both... Fuge was building up less desirable algae and was a spot for detritus to build up. Plus had been seeing lots of great results using the Marinepure media, so figured I'd try it.

Skimmer is in the first chamber, so the skimmer output blows the detritus to the other chambers. It should be easy to maintain now.
