Brettz16's 75g Rimless SPS build

I have always appreciated when others post their builds so i decided to post mine. I am always open to thought/ opinions.
I close on a house September 22 and thought this would be a perfect time to switch tanks. I currently have a 65g acrylic hex sps tank. Been running for about 7 months. Livestock in the 65g is blue tang, sailfin, athias, potter angel, various sps/muchrooms, 90lbs fiji live rock. All of which will be transferred to the new tank.

I ordered the new tank two weeks ago from AquaPros and am expecting it any day now. It is a Deep Blue 75g Rimless. I love blue backgrounds, and even though the overflow is black, i plan to paint the backdrop blue. I might put a thin piece of blue acrylic over the overflow. This tank comes with all bulkheads and durso pipe. Still unsure if i will be using them or not. I want to keep this setup as clean as possible so here are the details about each part:

Canopy:already built
49"x19"x7"
Wood frame with C500 coating(for water resistant)
Cantilever set-up
Held up by 2x 6" hinges and 2x metal wire secures(will be able to swing up)
Lighting:Need to order
Prestige LED t5-led hybrid 36"
Still unsure on how I'm going to mount this inside the canopy

Stand: ALready built/painted
aquatic fundamentals 75/90 stand
i heard these are actually quite good and sturdy stands. After i put it together, i can agree.
3 coats of c500

Parts already have:
mp10wes
Bubble magnuc Nac6-already have
mag 9 return pump-already have
20g sump with 3 chambers, 200 micron sock, filter sponges, and custom refugium set up
LED refugium light
3 surge protectors

Parts needed still:
Prestige LED t5/LED combo 36"
another MP10wes
BRS RO/DI unit
Reef elite unti
Jbj auto top-off

New set up:
I want the new set up to be an easy on maintenance so I'm putting all power supplies needed for a water change(return pump, skimmer, ect) on one surge so i can just flip a switch on and off when doing changes. I also want to have some sort of hook on the canopy so i can keep it open with adding/changing frags. The Mp10wes will be on "lagoon mode" and slaved because it works very well and gives a great looking wave to the tank that i wanted in a rimless. I will be drilling a hole behind the canopy to hide the power supply as well. I think I'm going to have a "two island" set-up with the rocks and get rid of about 30lbs or so.

I will keep up with updates and post...Open to comments!

I think there is waaay too much awesomeness going on in this build thread. Can you tone it down a little? (i need to take a computer class at the comunity college).

You don't need a computer class. Very easy program to use. Its called Google Sketch-up. Free for download.

Thought, if that is a light for a fuge on the left, in time it would be blocked by coraline algae.

Your right. I will end up mounting it above the fuge. Although i have the light on the side of my current one and the coraline is mostly on every side but the front panel. Either way Im probably going to mount it.

Very cool set up and helpful as I am getting ready to build a 65gal. My sump is configured similar to yours and was trying to get the cheato work into the mix. I was leaning towards the return chamber as well. Are you going to run a media reactor?

Wow, that looks awesome...so I know the tank will look amazing. Can't wait to see it come to life.

Behind the Light defuser in the sump is a 3" high chamber to hold sand/mud. On top of that will be LR with cheato. I do plan to run a little fishes 150 phosban reactor eventually. Also, under the second baffle will be a media sponge to collect any bubbles. I didn't have these in the pictures but there's also two acrylic covers that hold the 200 micron sock and stops backsplash.

If i were you i would think about covers. My sump now doesn't have them and there is salt build up EVERYWHERE! I glued small acrylic pieces to hold a thin acrylic sheet 1/4" below the top. I cut a hold for the skimmer collection cup and now i should have virtually no backsplash. plus its more quit

-Tank: still not arrived, but expecting it any day! I found the right color blue paint that and have purchased it, did a couple test on left over acrylic.

-Ordered 160 bucket of IO salt(came with a $5 Gift certificate and T-shirt), and a medium MagFloat glass cleaner

Still Need:
1x mp10wes- Waiting for tank. I want to make sure the mp10 will hold ok on 1/2" glass. I know its only rated to 3/8". But i have found people with same tank and their mp10's work just fine.

Little Fishies 150

Still wondering between Between Prestige or aqua illuminations

Another Update:

Lights Purchased: Was on the fence for a while about this but then i found a fantastic deal on Mazarra p's

I hope they were from an authorized reseller or dirt cheap. Mazzara P's have a notoriously high failure/fault rate. Just puttin that out there so you are aware.

So wait? If they are defective your just going to resell them off to someone else and let it be their problem? Nice.

If i am honest in the description about what is/isn't working and the condition, then why not. Its up to then to buy it. I have never screwed anybody over on a sale. I, on the other hand, have been mis informed soooooo many times from craigslist and eBay and it sucks going through the refund/protection/paypal process. Im honest when selling things to avoid this. So if your implying that I intend to screw someone over about a product that i haven't even received yet, i can assure you this isn't the case.
