Buying scallops

Was in jewel today and saw a lfs owner buying 100+ dollars worth of scallops on a link card ...was just wondering if anyone else finds this as disturbing as I do seeing she freely "bragged" about feeding them to corals before whipping out the link card to pay for them ... Please chime in bc I am curious to everyone else's thoughts ....

I really don't mind that my tax dollars go to help those in need. But this is an obvious abuse of the system.

I will exceed the character limit if I got started on this subject. The fiancee works for a large grocery chain, and almost daily has a new story to tell about people abusing the LINK system.

The top 3 most typical (in no particular order):

1) Can't pay for the groceries, but have plenty of cash for that cart full of liquor being unloaded as a separate purchase after the gov't. pays for the groceries.

2) Can't pay for the groceries, but those designer close, purse, sunglasses and that beautiful $50k+ vehicle out in the parking lot looks great!

3) Can't pay for the groceries, can't read or write the native English language of the country you are a citizen of that is paying for your groceries, but you still know exactly which items qualify to be paid for...

I don't think she has ever told me any stories of seafood LINK abuse before. This is just saddening that a business owner is able to do this and get away with it. This is a prime example of LINK abuse, we should all find this person and each demand one of those scallops that we paid for!

What's a buisiness owner doing with a link card?
The system is jacked up!

She is likely the actual business owners S.O., and they aren't married. She probably either doesn't make any money or paid very little so she qualifies. This is how most people "beat" the system on LINK that don't actually deserve it.

So if someone can't read or write English and can't afford food, they shouldn't eat ? I don't see what one has to do with the other. Now if a lfs is buying scallops with a link card , then there something wrong there.

This was not about people that legitimately qualify for LINK, it was in reference to the people that use the language thing as a "crutch" to get special priviledges or attention to cheat the system (LINK is not the only time these people use this crutch...). Im sure they arent carrying around a picture book and matching up products in the book before they put them in the cart. She has had to assist plenty of people that act like they clearly have no understanding of the language or the list of products printed out in english, and then walk away after getting assisntance, clearly speaking the english language.

As much as I would like to say what store was doing this ...I think this one is better left unsaid... I'm not here to ruin anyone's business... I just hope that the person who is doing this will read this post... And will think twice about what they say next time

Probably a good idea. After all, perhaps this person was buying to scallops to feed coral & fish they are trying to sell to make money to buy groceries for themselves. It wouldn't be prudent to hurt someone's business based off of assumptions.

Why would they have to use a link card to buy food for corals and sell the corals for groceries when they should just buy the groceries with the link ... Like its intended for !?!???

That would make the most sense, wouldn't it. I was only kidding around about buying scallops to feed fish to sell for money to buy food

I would get into about a million reasons why this social program will never work, site about 10 dozen founding father quotes about the abuses of a society dependent on the government, blah blah blah.

Bottom line, pure socialism is the downfall of every society, and without checks and balances, and too many agenda pushers like the last 3 presidents, we end up with a situation that we have to take back control.

Really is a shame because the original thought of supplying those truly in need should be something done, greatest country in the history of man should have 0 people starve to death, and it takes freeloaders and pure lazy to create a situation that we have to take it away from them. It really is infuriating.
