I don't like to put chalice frags on regular frag plugs so I'm looking for some sort of thin disk maybe 3 in. dia and thin around 1/8 thich. If anyone knows where I can buy anything like this or even how to make some it would be great

Thanks

actually, i have 15 3" ceramic discs that have been sitting around...i don't mind letting them go for $15 bucks...PM me if you're interested...i've used them recently for zoa colonies

I'll have to look into these thanks guys

I have three left that you can have if you want. I originally saw reefwise using them and loved the look when corals grow on a nice flat tile :). Home depot carries a case of about 8 tiles, but before putting them in the tank I wold rinse them off or let them soak in old saltwater.

I was just thinking the same thing,, using a tile from menards is an interesting thought. I would also be concerned... more so for the glaze on the tile. Unless you can get one w/o a coating/ color?...ive been using any flat LR i have to glue my best frags too..

How thick are they

Not very thick. About 1/8". Maybe slightly thicker. Very easy to cut into with bone cutters.

I just take a round large ball of epoxy and pound it out like it is pizza dough. Makes it round and really thin. I put all my encrusters on these home made discs. When u pound it out make sure u do it on like a wet piece of tinfoil or a wet plate so that it doesn't stick as u flip it over. Wait for it to dry and your done.. Super cheap and easy!

Here is a jf lepto I just moved to one of these discs, it's nice cuz u can thin them out to however thing u want them and how big u want the diameter. Super sturdy and strong and when the coral spreads u don't even need bone cutters just a pair of dissecting scissors..

If the disc breaks, especially if you mix thr epoxy after its wet it wont be fully hard .. Then you risk breaking the chalice and injuring it

These things are hard as a rock bro ill show ya sometime!! I don't let the epoxy mix with water. The first it sees water is when I'm pounding it out.. I have to say they are pretty sturdy I grow chalices on them and I don't have any issues

hmmmm i may try this :) this sounds nice and intresting :)

right now i use these .. at almost 2 inches they are nice ..when a chalice goes over 2 inches it can either go on sand bed or meet Mr.Butch ( :butcher:)
