Cheato dying??

Ok increased flow, changed light to a cfl, and added a little iron & Mang supplement. Hoping it works. Thanks everyone for your imput.

besides lighting and flow, Iron supplement will help macro-algae growth

I've done this in 2 different ways...
1 use a good Iron & Manganese supplement
2 use GFO upstream from your macro

I don't think using GFO will help you grow any algae. It will strip the water of nutrients needed by chaetomorpha to live and grow.

Instead of using GFO before the water passes thru the macro. Use the GFO after the water passes thru the macro.

+1 this is true as well. The reason you use cheato/macro is to help remove waste. Using GFO is just really really efficient.
