ChicagoReefs.com Summer 2012 Palythoa Grow-Out Contest

Oh I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't a "cool" polyp. The question is, what would people be willing to spend again this time around? Were people happy with the $30 entry for the ultra polyp (and subsequent LARGER payout and prize pool), or do they want to spend less up front on a cheaper polyp (with smaller payout and fewer prizes)?

$30 was a bit steep, but subsequently, $15-$20 would be perfect.

So what counts as a polyp? I have a bump that "popped" so that you can see it's mouth, but its skirt has yet to open. Here's a picture:

We've defined that before as "open", not just a bump, so if you can see its mouth, it's "open".

If we're going to spend $30, I'm going to ask that we buy from a different sponsor, or vendor, but not who we went with for this one. I don't have the time to check, so if I'm the first to say it, the polyp looks like poop in comparison to the pics we were given. I shouldn't have to have the lights at a crisp Windex look to appreciate a polyp...if it's "ultra" I would hope it looks good in daylight and actinic. This isn't a knock on George, obviously, but we've definitely been more negatively (than positively) wow'd by ASD in past dealings. I don't think they deserve our business on this level. Just ma thoughts.

+1

Yeah a $30 for a single polyp should be a pretty **** nice polyp. I know $30 isn't that high but its still quiet a bit of money for a 1/8" polyp
