Colaaddict's Shallow Tank

Haha yeah he saw them while picking up my previous set of Kessils. Now days later I have a new set of Kessils, something is wrong with me.

Did you decide to go kessils again and not the reefbrites? I love the reefbrite halide hybrids!

I love them too, I love the color, but I hate the wiring. Some people don't mind but with my setup how I have it and with what I have planned the halides are in the way. Can you imagine the Reefbrites over a tank that has a Sunburst Nem, it would be ridiculous.

Lookin good, Nino. I think you'll be pleased with the results too! Keep an eye on the higher acro's, it might take them a while to adjust to the light being a shallow tank. How many hours are you gong to run them per day?

I'm starting at 4 hours a day. And the fixtures are like 3ft above the water :) slowly bring down to 24" eventually. I am using the reefbrite halide hybrids, so I have the blue LEDs on when halides are off. The fixture gets pretty hot, same as the ballasts. I should probably place the ballasts on bricks since they are on top of carpet right now.

Good plan. I mounted my ballasts on a small 2'x2' piece of plywood and leaned them up against the wall so they would be off my carpet, made me nervous too.

I mounted mine straight to the wall and they don't get hot at all, slightly warm but that's about it. Then again you're running 400W vs my 175w.

Lookin good! You have some nice pieces in there. Won't be too much longer and you're fishes won't have much room ;)

Yes. Mesh top I have. I am already seeing faster growth with halides compared to any other light Ive used, with just 1 weeks use!

Haven't updated in awhile. I switched to Reefbreeders Photon fixtures a few months ago. Very happy with them. I had an issue with alk spike a few months ago when I stopped using Acropower which caused some of my SPS colonies to STN, but my tank recovered since. Here are a few update pics.

I'm currently blasting my tank with light. LED's go all the way up to 100% and I have a shallow reef. I set up a small LPS tank and placed my chalices/LPS there, but the LPS not looking too good, so I may try to move all LPS back, but I'm worried my SPS tank will be too much light for the chalices.
